Associate Industrial Hygienist at University of Iowa

The Environmental Health and Safety Office is seeking an Associate Industrial Hygienist to be part of a campus wide occupational health and safety program.  Position duties focus primarily on occupational safety and chemical hygiene within the research environment. 

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene or in a science/engineering related discipline with a minimum of two years of chemistry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Considerable (3 – 5 years) experience with performing IH assessments, exposure monitoring using a variety of sampling equipment, conducting health hazard evaluations and recommending control measures that includes the performance of the following:

Anticipation and recognition of workplace hazards or factors that may cause adverse health effect
 - Evaluation using appropriate sampling techniques and methodologies
 - Use of IH monitoring equipment and appropriate calibration procedures
 - Identifying preventive measures
 - Recommending control measures and communicating results

Ability to wear respirator.

Familiarity with applicable federal and state regulations.

Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office emphasizing Excel and Access or other relational database programs.

Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to successfully convey information to a wide variety of audiences and excellent interpersonal skills. 

Desirable Qualifications
Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene or in a science/engineering related discipline.
Eligibility for or actual CIH certification.
Experience in conducting IAQ investigations.
Knowledge of University policies and procedures.

Salary
$44,037 to $55,000

A key global producer of palm based products for the food industry, Sales volume exceeds $350 million. The company has 200 employees with a union contingency of 100.

Location: Far southwestern suburb of Chicago. World headquarters are in Wormerveer, the Netherlands.

Major Functions: Manage and maintain the safety program for the facility. Develop and conduct training programs on a continual basis. Manage the physical, biological, and chemical hazard programs. Site security officer and food safety officer for compliance with all FDA
regulations. Maintain records and documentation required by regulatory agencies. Responsible for incident management and serve as incident commander. Serve as company manager and representative with all regulatory bodies. Drive risk out of all operations and create and foster a positive EHS culture and environment. Secure permit applications and prepare all federal reporting documentation. Forecast and monitor energy usage and environmental requirements.

Reporting Relationships: This position reports to the Quality Assurance Manager. There are no direct reports.

Qualifications: Degreed individual with 10 years' experience in Safety, Health & Environment management and administration. Excellent communication skills. Ability to work with regulatory agencies.

Compensation: $75 - 85K depending on background and upside potential...bonus eligible. Excellent benefits package.
