In 2005, The Chicago Section of the AIHA developed a Task Force Sub-Committee to review proposed changes to the Commercial and Public Building Asbestos Abatement Act signed into law by Governor Rod R. Blagojevich on August 10, 2004.  House Bill 4057 amended Sections 15 and 35 of Public Act 093-0894.  The Task Force held its first meeting on February 22, 2005 which includes a multi-disciplined group of statewide professionals.  The purpose of the Task Force is to develop a proactive position statement by the end of May 2005 and develop a consensus response to the Illinois Department of Public Health by the end of summer 2005 prior to release of the proposed revisions to the IL Administrative Code 855 for public comment.  Our goal is to help clarify the existing Rules, and incorporate the new changes based on sound scientific principles and risk assessment models to protect public health.
